Complexity, Governance & Networks Journal Letter from the editors

Dear Editorial Board Member;

With this message, we would like to update you on the status our journal Complexity, Governance & Networks. As you may know, the publication of the journal was interrupted for a while because of the problems we experienced with the former publisher. Now we have a new publisher, and we resumed publishing the journal. A new issue is available as of now via the website of the publisher at http://ubp.uni-bamberg.de/ojs/index.php/cgn

We hope we can continue counting on you as an editorial board member and a contributor to the journal. We invite all editorial board members to contribute to the journal with some of their best papers, edit special issues for the Journal, and invite others to contribute to the journal with their high-quality papers. Special issues may be based on relevant conference papers or a specific theme that you will develop. Please email your ideas for special issues to Lasse Gerrits at lasse.gerrits@uni-bamberg.de or Göktuğ Morçöl at gxm27@psu.edu.

The following is the latest information about our journal. Please contact us via email if you have any questions or suggestions.

 The journal has found a new home at the University of Bamberg Press (UBP). Working with this publisher has given us some advantages. Most important, the journal has become fully open access. This includes access to the back catalogue. In other words, all papers that have been published in the journal will be accessible to anyone at no cost. Of course, we will maintain our quality standards by continuing to subject all submitted papers to double-blind reviews.

The cost of publishing the journal is defrayed by the University of Bamberg, partly with the money provided by the German Science Foundation (http://www.dfg.de/en) and partly by the university itself. The financial support from these sources made it possible for us to publish the journal open access and at no charge to authors.

 All information regarding the journal and the catalogue are available at http://ubp.uni-bamberg.de/ojs/index.php/cgn.

• It took some time for the UBP technical staff to get the journal’s website and editorial review systems up and running, but the systems are fully functional now.

 We relaunched the journal earlier this year with a special issue on “complexity, innovation and policy,” which can be accessed from the journal’s website.

 The next regular issue of the journal is online now.

 We now aim to publish two issues per year so that we can maintain high quality. Should the number of submissions increase quickly, we can easily increase the number of issues to three or four issues per year.

 A special issue on “teaching complexity” is currently in the making and is scheduled to be published in January 2018.

The following are the items on our to-do list:

Review the lay-out of the papers: We have adopted the print format for published papers from the previous publisher (see the published papers at http://ubp.uni-bamberg.de/ojs/index.php/cgn). We need to tweak this format. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Introduction of OJS 3.0: The journal currently uses OJS 2.0. OJS is the system that is used for the submission of manuscripts, reviews, and publishing formatted issues. As such, it is the technical heart of the journal. We are now testing the stability and functions of the next version: OJS 3.0. More information on the OJS platform can be found here: https://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/. The introduction of OJS 3.0 will be used to change the layout of the website. Any feedback would be appreciated.

 Our goal is to have the journal indexed by multiple indexing services. UBP has started its work on this.

o The journal will be listed first in the Directory of Open Access Journals: https://doaj.org/publishers. The indexing at this site can start in January 2018 the earliest, because the Directory has the rule that a journal has to have certain numbers of papers and issues published before it can be considered. We will reach the threshold numbers at the end of 2017. Once they have indexed us, we will approach other repositories.

o The journal will also be indexed by the German National Library as of next year: http://www.dnb.de/EN/Home/home_node.html.

o It is the goal of the UBP to have the journal included in the Thomson Reuter (SSCI) Index eventually. It is expected that this process will take at least 3 years.

Best wishes,

Lasse Gerrits
